Values and Measures

cast iron pot and statue of liberty at odds

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion were previously recognized as values to live by but have increasingly become measures to ‘appropriately’ administer policies and procedures. Should we revisit our relationship with this understanding and consider Honesty, Reasonableness, and Kindness in its stead? Have supposed values become rigidly definitive measures to hegemonically dominate or coercively subsume both individual and group identities? Perhaps a return to intangible guidelines and fluid frames of reference would begin to heal the psychological, environmental and cultural rift caused by the judgmental hard lines and definitive closures of modern thinking.

  • What is Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the lens of Honesty, Reasonableness, and Kindness (HRK)?
  • Has DEI simply become an organizational framework for entities to direct course of actions?
  • Why are values appreciated and appraised?
  • When are measures used to express degrees of freedom?
  • How can we live, love and be loved in our natural neighborhood?
  • How would DEI in the workplace change with HRK?
