Odd Lemming Out

I had a dream
To leave the mainstream
And pawsed to rest
Upon this hill crest
Where I gained a view
That I thought no body knew

I tried to tell
That they were heading for Hell
But, they said, ‘what cheek
To pronounce from your peak’

Those who came nearest
Said I was the queerest
Unfeeling sub-lemming
Not allowed
To depart from the crowd

They said, ‘not to be dim’
To ‘be in with the swim’
But when I refused
They were not amused

They tied me down
And pierced my hide
And left me to die
As they rushed for the sky
