Day after day
Like a child anticipating snowfall in winter
I open the curtains of my inner world
Looking out for signs of that magical transformation
From muddy dreariness
Into sparkling clarity
That’s arrived with a hush
In a rush
In response to my eager preparations
Day after day
I am disappointed
And yet the hope returns
In outbursts of enthusiasm
Only to be dampened
By rain on my parade
From clouded thought
That masks the darkness from the light
In idol self-isolation
Behind a smear of positivity
Spread over soulful depth of need
In the heart of receptivity
